Mr Rebuy

What I'm Drinking - Honey Blond Ale, Heinaken

OK, time to face the results of my play...

Monday Night 35 tourney, lost AA vs 35s in the second round. It was the only hand I had played. I was the BB, raise in EP, reraise in SB, I jammed for 1400 all-in. LP folds, and SB calls with that crap. Two Spades and an Ace come on the flop. THis guy was over 5000t buy this point for all kind of BS, so I stood up and grabbed for my beer... Turn is a spade giving me the nut flush draw and 9 cards to make a boat. Needless to say I walked after I missed my 12 or so outs.

I played $20nl after that, and did better. I was up to almost $120 at one point, though all of my wins were on some fishy draws to the river. I dropped up and down all night and left my first trip to a California casino about $60 down, $35 for the shady tourney and the rest on beer and food. Did I forget to mention? No free booze! WTF Chuck? I left the casino hung over and tired at about 6:30am. Time to go to work!

Next trip to Hawaiian Gardens took place the Thursday following. My mother was flying in on a leg of a buisness trip and I got to spend the weekend with her. I thought I would start it out right by winning some cash for the weekend. I had two hours before her flight arrived so I bought in to the $40nl game, thinking it would be a relaxing game. Boy was I wrong! They give you 20 $2 chips and charge a $3 per hand rake with a full table. This hurts the slow patient players. Combine this with a tough day of work and impatients and bad things are bound to happen. I lost it on Kj vs K10. REBUY!

Next hand was AJs. Lost to AQ, REBUY! I move quickly over to a $20 seat with my tail between my legs. I was dealt rockets my first hand and finagle an all in with two callers. I got flushed down the river. I was only there for a Heineken and 2o minutes and I was out a hundred bucks... Time to cool off. I hit big at that funny "ATM" game that is so popular these days and look for a 2/4 table to hit. A 3/6 opens up, which I have never played before, so I sit down with a rack and play my worst limit game yet. I still had an hour before my mom arrived and I was down $200.

At this point I was just chasing, but I was also starting to relax supprisingly. I rebought, against my (and everyone else the tables) better judgement. 15 minutes till I had to leave and I had $18 left. Time to make a move. QJs holds up on a three way pot. Up to $50. Next hand AK gets me to $80. One more decent hand and I hit $100 again, enough to leave and not feel too bad about it. Still $200 I wish I could have back.

B&M (Not S&M sicko) Tourney

What I'll Be Drinking - Corona

Well I'm off to an actual Casino tournament tonight at the Hawaiian Gardens in beautiful southern California. I'll probably play some 2/4 before hand to loosen up a bit. Here's the game plan.

1. Tight
2. Tight
3. Tightish
4. Crazy
5. Tight

We will see how this works out and I'll give an update tomorrow. Hopefully I will make some sort of a showing in 2/4 to pay for the buyin (i am not sure how much it will be). The Tourney is a Poorman's Poker Night (or something like that) and is the first that they will run. In case you are like me and have no idea who Poorman is, I will elaborate.

There I was flipping through channels on my super sweet bedroom home theater. I have a widscreen SXGA projector hooked to a digital and HD cable box and my PC. Audio is provided by a Creative Labs THX 5.1 channel sound system and I get about a 70" picture about 3 feet from the end of my little piggies. It may be the best purchase I have ever made as movies (downloaded or otherwise) look great, and you can see some of the things you never wanted to see so big on naughty flix. But I digress. So there I was browsing through the air (ground?) waves and I stumble upon a local channel broadcast called Poorman's Bikini Party. Hmmm, sounds good.

It is basically a crazy dread-locked white guy touring SoCal finding bikini parties and shows. Pretty decent stuff, and they all drink a lot so it was pretty fun to watch. Then a commercial comes up for the Hawaiian Gardens which I have been meaning to check out (among the other casinos in the area) whith their inaugural Poker tourney. Fate? I think so.

So I'm off in a few hours. Should get an hour or two at the tables before the tournament. No free booze, but I guess the food is decent and cheap and a bunch of drunk bikini show watching freaks like me should be fun to play some cards with...

Wish me luck!

Two to Tourney?

What I'm Watching - Hudson Hawk (In HD ish)

Long time no post. I broke my PC trying to swap out hard drives without starting over and it appears to be harder than I thought. I can now boot from the new drive but the old drive has to be installed. WTF?

Anyway, I've been up and down for the last week. Lots of 2 and 3rd places in two table turbo's. 5 table games are not my forte yet though, as I seem to loose all of my profit from the small games to the biger game buy-ins. I also just had a realy bad run playing $50nl. I left before it got too bad and finished the day with $120 left in the account.

I really wanted to wake up to play the Saturdays w/ Pauly tournament but I played poker really late into the night last night at my house. It is always bad when you start at 12:15 for the first hand.... Here's how it ran.

7 person $20 freeze out. We paid 3 places thinking that we would have 8 or 9 people and didn't change it as this was our first tourney game. I played tight and well and went from $100 in starting chips to $225 buy the time we got to 3. I lost a few questionable hands after that and was down to 2nd stack with # 3 very short. I got pocket aces and after the SB raised I re-raised all in. He called with a open ended straight draw that he hit on the river. No biggie, I was up $10 which covered my beer. The best part of the night was the next hour that ensued, with the small stack doubling up 4 times in a row to take the chip lead, and then loose it all on a run of dead cards.

It was deffinetly a fun time, and I think that everyone liked the format change. I really need to learn when to make a move in the final 3-5 people in tourney. Actually I need to learn when not to make a move. I have only read the first page of Harringtons book, so I better settle down and hit the books again. More sooner than later I hope.

... and then there was live play ...

What I'm Reading - My ATM withdrawel receipt

What I'm Drinking - Tilt

On the way to a friendly $20 NL game yesterday I picked up a 4 pack of Tilt, a malt beverage that is like a bad combination of cheap booze and cheap energy drink. I drank three of them during the 3 hour game. 3, kind of a magic number. Let me expand...

3 Buy-ins lost
3 Cigerettes I smoked
3 Bad beats
3 Times I tilted
3 Times I had to wait for the bathroom
3 Players for most of the game
and finally, (drumroll please)

3, the number of hours of sleep I got last night after waking up with the worst stomach cramps I have ever had. Do I recommend Tilt or tilt? You be the judge.

Anyway, I was pretty much down from the first had. I had a long day at work and thought a brain free evening would do the trick. I guess poker is not the best place to turn your brain off. The group saw 14 buyins buy 8 people of which 2 were out in 10 or less hands. Boo that. As a special favor for everyone reading this, I am not going to remove that money from my poker bankroll... Instead I am going to take it from the "do my laundry and stuff" fund. I figure if I can't make A2o win three hands in a row, it ain't gonna happen.

Where oh where did the cashier go?

What I'm Drinking - Chocolate Protien Shake

What I'm Reading - Digg

I caught up with the 50th episode of Card Club on Lord Admiral Radio Podcast which was great! If you are not listening to this yet, get on it! I subscribe through iTunes which is very easy though not nesissary, as you can go directly through their website. Anyway they have a great new Columbo Episode with a twist, and an interview with Isabelle Mercier that is quite good. Also check out Pauly's website for information about his weekly saturday blogger tournament, which I plan to attend (and dominate) this week.

My computer is currently being used to host my bedroom home theatre system (work in progress) so I though that I would use my roomates which is in the living room. I go to pokerstars.net and download the software and login. It accepts my login and I am ready to play, but whats this? No cashier?!?! Where is my money? Did I get scammed? I checked the website and it looked normal. WTF?

I went to my room, grabbed my box and brought it to the living room. Installed the switch etc. and booted it up. After running PS it said I needed an update, so I say yes. Guess what, no cashier! Shit! There goes $200... Or did it? I remembered that there was two websites, one for play money and one for real money. I download the software from the .com site and install and my money is still there.. I pretty much gained a few grey hairs for nothing, though I still can't figure out why it updated my software to the play money only program. Any ideas?

On to my poker. I played break even last night making a few good moves and a few good calls. I am back to the $0.10/$0.25 tables on Pokerstars which seem to be a bit easier. I also had a really dry run of cards so I switched to a 10 person table to cut down on the blinds. Up down up down all night, and I think I ended with $198 after playing for about an hour. I also played a $1 + $0.10 tourney that I did very poorly in. Next time I think I'll fold for the whole game, just to see how far I make it.
